RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-six; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the West Beverly community, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce was a retired labor leader and the loving husband for sixty-eight years of the late Mary E., nee Jordan; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce was the much-adored father of Edward, Joseph, John, Thomas, Maryellen and James, the grandfather of twenty and the great-grandfather of twenty-four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
 
WHEREAS, A native of Chicago, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce hailed from a labor family and was a devout Catholic who strongly believed in the dignity of working men and women; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce was also a true patriot who bravely served his country as a member of the United States Navy during World War II; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce began his career as a bricklayer before serving as a labor leader with Bricklayers Union Local 21, beginning in the late 1970s; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce was a business agent, a role in which he worked as a field representative, before becoming Secretary-Treasurer; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edward R. "Bud" Joyce serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edward R. "Bud" Joyce to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Edward R. "iBud" Joyce will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Edward R. "Bud" Joyce imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-fourth day of July, 2013, do hereby commemorate Edward R. "Bud" Joyce for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and !
