RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 97; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler was the loving husband of Margaret; and
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler was the beloved father and stepfather of eight, the grandfather of 24, the great-grandfather of 55 and the great-great grandfather of 26 to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler founded True Vine Church of God in Christ in 1973 on Chicago's West Side before it was moved to Bellwood in 1988; and
WHEREAS, Known as someone who had a big heart and compassion for people, Bishop George A. Hagler was a major force in his community where he would help people purchase cars for work, pay gas bills and even buy homes; and
WHEREAS, A native of downstate Pulaski, Bishop George A. Hagler was raised by his grandfather, Burton Roy, who was born into slavery; and
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler served as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service where he worked until his retirement in 1988; and
WHEREAS, The faith, sacrifice and dedication of Bishop George A. Hagler serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Bishop George A. Hagler was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Bishop George A. Hagler imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-third day of May, 2018, do hereby
