RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, A resident of Westchester, Thomas J. Durkin was the loving husband of the late Colette, nee McHugh; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin was the much-adored father of the Honorable Thomas, Kevin, Terry, Michael, Patrick, the Honorable James, Robert and William, and the grandfather of twenty-seven to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, The son of Irish immigrant parents, Thomas J. Durkin was raised on the West Side and served his country during the Korean War as a member of a civil engineering group that built runways; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin attended DePaul University where he studied to become a certified public accountant; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin joined Thomas Havey & Company and rose to become a Managing Partner at the firm which is now called Legacy Professionals; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin raised his family in Divine Infant Parish in Westchester and instilled in them a great love of public service; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin was a Life Trustee of the John Marshall Law School and Fenwick High School; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Thomas J. Durkin serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Thomas J. Durkin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

WHEREAS, Thomas J. Durkin will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Thomas J. Durkin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this tenth day of December, 2014, do hereby commemorate Thomas J. Durkin for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Thoma^ J. Durkin. /
