RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 57; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt was a widely respected member of the legal community and the Mayor of Park Ridge; and
 
WHEREAS, The son of a Navy doctor and a homemaker, the Honorable David Schmidt was raised in Detroit, Michigan before moving with his family to the Chicago area; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt attended New Trier High School in Winnetka and graduated from Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Loyola University of Chicago School of Law; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt represented the 1st Ward from 2007 to 2009 as a member of the Park Ridge City Council; and
 
WHEREAS, A Republican, the Honorable David Schmidt was elected Mayor in 2009 and worked tirelessly to improve city finances and enhance government transparency; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt was an outspoken leader who did not hesitate to use his veto power if he opposed legislation adopted by the City Council; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable David Schmidt serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable David Schmidt to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable David Schmidt was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
 
WHEREAS, To his longtime companion, Maria Cataldo, his son, Kevin, his brother, Robert, his three sisters, Beth, Cathy and Karin, and his adoring grandchild, the Honorable David Schmidt imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eighteenth day of March, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable David Schmidt for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable David Schmidt.
