RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jon Anderson has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-seven; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Jon Anderson was a widely admired veteran Chicago journalist and the loving husband of Pamela; and
 
WHEREAS, Jon Anderson was the much-adored father of Ashley, Abra, Anthony and the late Jon G., a devoted grandfather and the dear brother of Derek; and
 
WHEREAS, Born in Montreal's immigrant district, Jon Anderson was inspired to become a journalist by his uncle, Johnny Walsh, a legendary crime reporter; and
 
WHEREAS, Jon Anderson reported for the Montreal Gazette and graduated from McGill University Law School in 1959; and
 
WHEREAS, In 1963 Jon Anderson came to Chicago as an employee of Time magazine and rose to become one of our City's most influential writers and treasured storytellers; and
 
WHEREAS, During a highly distinguished career which spanned five decades, Jon Anderson worked at the Chicago Daily News, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Chicago Tribune; and
 
WHEREAS, From 1995 to 2006, Jon Anderson wrote the "City Watch" column for the Tribune in which he explored the colorful and gritty aspects of everyday life in the metropolis; and
 
WHEREAS, Known for his affable demeanor and refinement, Jon Anderson was an individual of great aptitude and talent; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Jon Anderson serve as an example to all; and
 
 
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Jon Anderson to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
 
WHEREAS, Jon Anderson will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jon Anderson imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of February, 2014, do hereby commemorate Jon Anderson for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jon Anderson.
