RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 91; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth was a retired Chicago Sun-Times cartoonist and the loving husband of the late Catherine; and

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth was the much-adored father of Robert, Catherine, Timothy, Patricia, Gary and Bridget, the grandfather of seventeen, the great-grandfather of thirteen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth was the dear sister Margaret; and

 

WHEREAS, Raised in New Jersey, Clifton "Cliff Wirth married his wife in 1950 and lived for many years in the Detroit area for many years before moving to Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, A member of our "Greatest Generation," Clifton "Cliff Wirth served his country as a member of the United States Army and earned a degree on the G.I Bill from the Meinzinger Art School in Detroit and; and

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth began his newspaper career at the Detroit Times; and

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth went on to work for more than 22 years at the Chicago Sun-Times where his whimsical cartoons brought humor and a smile to countless readers and City leaders; and

 

WHEREAS, During his highly esteemed tenure at the Chicago Sun-Times which ran from 1979 to 2002 Clifton "Cliff Wirth and his wife lived in Evanston and Wilmette; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, talent and dedication of Clifton "Cliff Wirth serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Clifton "Cliff Wirth to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

 

 

WHEREAS, Clifton "Cliff Wirth was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Clifton "Cliff Wirth imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this 25th day of May, 2018, do hereby commemorate Clifton "Cliff Wirth for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Cjifjfcn "Cliff Wirth.
