WHEREAS, Thomas J. Pritzker, Executive Chairman of Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Head of the Pritzker Organization LLC, has been named Chairman of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a bi-partisan, non-profit, and research and policy analysis organization headquartered in Washington D.C.; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this prestigious appointment by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1962, the Center for Strategic and International Studies employ 220 full-time staff members and a network of scholars from around the world to evaluate and synthesize the latest trends, data and breaking information in the sphere of international relations, technology, energy, foreign trade and geo-strategy; and
WHEREAS, Since its founding at Georgetown University during the height of the Cold War by Admiral Arleigh Burke, former Chief of Naval Operations, and David Abshire, former U.S. Ambassador to NATO, the Center for Strategic and International Studies has had only three Chairmen; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Pritzker succeeds former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn of Georgia and Anne Armstrong, former United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom; and
WHEREAS, In its 2013 Global Go To Think Tanks Report, the University of Pennsylvania ranked the Center for Strategic and International Studies the number one think tank in the world for security and international affairs, and the fourth best overall think tank in the world; and
WHEREAS,. Throughout its history the Center for Strategic and International Studies has been highly influential in helping to shape American foreign policy and its Commission on Cyber-security was instrumental in assisting the Obama Administration in formulating policy on cyber-warfare; and
WHEREAS, Thomas J. Pritzker, through his distinguished and notable leadership of many corporate boards and global philanthropic endeavors, has served as a Trustee of the Center for Strategic and International Studies since December...
