RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright of Oak Lawn has been selected as a 2013 Rhodes Scholar; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A Rhodes scholarship affords the opportunity for some of the top students in the world to study at Oxford University in England; and
WHEREAS, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright was among thirty-two Americans chosen to receive the prestigious scholarship; and
WHEREAS, A former resident of Chicago's Englewood community, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright is the daughter of Karen Gunn, the founder of not-for-profit youth agency, Urban Solutions; and
WHEREAS, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright attended the Illinois Science and Math Academy and graduated magna cum laude from Yale University with majors in African American studies and woman's gender and sexuality studies; and
WHEREAS, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright has been active working for grandmothers caring for children orphaned by HIV-AIDS in Uganda and in Chicago for wards of the state; and
WHEREAS, Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright works in Washington, D.C., for the Institute for Women's Policy Research; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twelfth day of December, 2012, do hereby congratulate Rhiana E. Gunn-Wright on receiving a Rhodes Scholarship and do hereby express every good wish for her continued academic success; and 1
