RESOLUTION COMMEMORATING WORLD PANCREATIC CANCER DAY
WHEREAS, World Pancreatic Cancer Day is November 17, 2016; and
WHEREAS, This august body has been notified of this important event by the Honorable Roberto Maldonado, Alderman of the 26th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the 4th most common cause of cancer related death in developed countries like the United States; and
WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the 12th most common cancer in the world; and
WHEREAS, Approximately one thousand people die daily from this terrible disease; and
WHEREAS, About 338,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer each year; and
WHEREAS, The five year survival rate for people with pancreatic cancer is less than 10%; and
WHEREAS, The survival rate for pancreatic cancer has dropped in recent years while the survival rate for other cancers has improved; and
WHEREAS, World Pancreatic Cancer Day calls attention to this horrible disease which can lead to earlier detection and a possible cure; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the
City of Chicago, gathered here this sixteenth day of November, 2016/ do hereby
