RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-three; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of the Edgewater community, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman was a widely admired Chicago journalist; and

WHEREAS, A native of Philadelphia, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman came to Chicago to attend the University of Chicago where he received a degree; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman worked for the City News Bureau of Chicago, the legendary wire service, before joining the Chicago American; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman left the daily afternoon newspaper in 1970 to serve as the Editor of the Chicago Journalism Review, a publication which he helped found dedicated to critiquing media coverage; and

WHEREAS, Known for his quiet demeanor and strong convictions, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman worked for Chicago magazine and The Quill before becoming director of publications at the Field Museum; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman most recently served on the board of the progressive magazine In These Times; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman and his partner of twenty years, Kenneth Y. Ilio, became the first male couple to legally marry in Illinois in December of 2013; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Ronald "Ron" Dorfman serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ronald "Ron" Dorfman to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ronald "Ron" Dorfman imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifth day of March...
