RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Fama, a Professor at the University of Chicago, has been named a joint recipient of the Nobel Prize for Economics; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences honored Dr. Eugene Fama and two other recipients "for their empirical analysis of asset prices"; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Fama's research helped to explain why stock and bond prices change over time and how new information is very quickly absorbed into the market, making it complex to predict short-term changes in asset prices; and
WHEREAS, Widely recognized as "the father of modern finance," and a giant in the academic world, Dr. Eugene Fama is the grandson of Italian immigrants and was born in Boston, Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Fama graduated from Tufts University and earned his master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Chicago and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Fama is the Robert R. McCormick Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eugene Fama has published two books and more than one-hundred articles in academic journals; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. Eugene Fama serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby congratulate Dr. Eugene Fama on receiving this prestigious honor and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Eugene Fama.
