RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane was a former Illinois Congressman and the loving husband of the late Arlene; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane was the much-adored father of eight children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of a physician, the Honorable Philip Crane was born in Chicago and served his country in the United States Army before joining the faculty of Bradley University in Peoria; and
WHEREAS, The longest-serving Republican member of the United States House of Representatives, the Honorable Philip Crane was elected to Congress in 1969 and ably represented Illinois' 12th District for 35 years; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane served for much of his highly distinguished tenure as a member of the powerful House Ways & Means Committee; and
WHEREAS, Erudite and well-read, the Honorable Philip Crane championed a conservative agenda and was a staunch advocate for lower taxes, free markets and limited government; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane was the author of the 1976 book, The Sum of Good Government, which encapsulated his political viewpoints; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Philip Crane serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Philip Crane was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Philip Crane imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
