RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alice Varnado Harden has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of sixty-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alice Varnado Harden was a devoted public servant and the loving wife of Dennis; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alice Varnado Harden served with distinction for twenty-four years as a member of the Mississippi State Senate where she was a passionate voice for education and victims of domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, During her esteemed tenure in public office, the Honorable Alice Varnado Harden served as Chairman of both the Education, Universities and Colleges Committee and the Elections Committee; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Alice Varnado Harden was a former teacher and Past President of the Mississippi Association of Educators; and
WHEREAS, A native of Pike County, the Honorable Alice Varnado Harden earned her undergraduate and master's degrees in education from Jackson State University; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Alice Varnado Harden serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, the Honorable Alice Varnado Harden imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Alice Varnado Harden for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the H^Iorable Alice Varnado Harden.
