RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable William Donald Schaefer has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-nine; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William Donald Schaefer was a former Governor of the State of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William Donald Schaefer also served during his distinguished tenure in public life as both State Comptroller and the much-loved Mayor of Baltimore; and
WHEREAS, Passionate and direct, the Honorable William Donald Schaefer was a tireless advocate for real citizens who were affected by government policy; and
WHEREAS, During his fifteen years as Mayor of Baltimore, the Honorable William Donald Schaefer was credited with transforming the City's downtown and inner harbor areas, as well as constructing a renowned local aquarium and a new baseball stadium for the Baltimore Orioles; and
WHEREAS, The intense work ethic and "Do It Now" philosophy exhibited by the Honorable William Donald Schaefer resulted in vast civic and governmental improvements throughout the whole of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, Described by his colleagues as an indomitable statesman, the Honorable William Donald Schaefer brought a renewed energy to the city and state which he loved; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable William Donald Schaefer will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends, colleagues, and constituents; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable William Donald Schaefer imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fourth day of May , 2011, do hereby commemorate the Honorable William Donald Schaefer for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
