RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, LeRoy Martin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-four; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Aldermen Edward M. Burke and Michelle Harris; and
WHEREAS, A Chicago Police Superintendent under two mayors and a widely admired member of the law enforcement community, LeRoy Martin was the loving and devoted husband of Constance; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Martin was the much-adored father of LeRoy, Jr., Ron and Dawn and the grandfather of three to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, LeRoy Martin earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and a master's degree in public administration from Roosevelt University; and
WHEREAS, Appointed Chicago Police Superintendent in 1987 by Mayor Harold Washington and having served under Mayor Richard M. Daley as well, LeRoy Martin remained on the job until 1992; and
WHEREAS, Known for his professionalism and emphasis on education and training, LeRoy Martin built important bridges of communication between the Chicago Police Department and other governmental agencies such as the FBI and the Illinois State Police; and
WHEREAS, After retirement, LeRoy Martin worked as Chief of Investigations for the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of LeRoy Martin serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared LeRoy Martin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, LeRoy Martin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
