RESOLUTION

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, The Battle of the Badges, a charity boxing exhibition which features Chicago police officers squaring off in the ring against firefighters, officially celebrated its 13th Anniversary in 2015; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this milestone by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Battle of the Badges was founded following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 by a group of Chicago Park District employees who wished to hold an annual event benefiting first responders and their families; and

 

WHEREAS, Over the past 13 years, the Battle of the Badges has attracted substantial corporate sponsorship and raised $575,000 to benefit Chicago Police Department/Chicago Fire Department charities; and

 

WHEREAS, Among the not-for-profit organizations to which The Battle of the Badges donated funds is the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation; and

 

WHEREAS, The most recent event was held inside the Parmer Activity Center of De LaSalle Institute on April 24, 2015, and was attended by more than 3,000 persons; now, therefore

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commend the organizers of The Battle of the Badges for their important work on behalf of first responders and their families in the City of Chicago; and
