CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO THE BARBERSHOP HARMONY SOCIETY
ON CELEBRATING 75 ANNIVERSARY
WHEREAS, The Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA)known now as The Barbershop Harmony Societywas officially organized seventy-five years ago, on April 11, 1938 in Tulsa, Oklahoma; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this significant occasion by the Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, What began as a small group has steadily blossomed into the world's largest all-male singing organization, an international organization of men from all stations of life; and
WHEREAS, The Barbershop Harmony Society is committed to spreading harmony for the enjoyment of all people of the world through the universal language of music by organizing and encouraging Barbershop harmony singing groups; and
WHEREAS, The Barbershop Harmony Society is dedicated to sustaining and preserving an American tradition, the Barbershop Quartet, by performing and sharing Barbershop music with enthusiastic listeners and participants; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago Metro Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society has actively participated in encouraging Barbershop singing through its meetings and outreach activities within the City of Chicago and elsewhere; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this tenth day of April, 2013, do hereby extend our heartiest congratulations to The Barbershop Harmony Society on celebrating their 75th anniversary and wish them every success in any and all of their future endeavors; and
