RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-five; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor was the loving and devoted husband of the late Patricia; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor was the much-adored father of Dan, Marty, Matthew, Chris and Patti and the grandfather of ten to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, An influential figure in Chicago's trading community, Edmund O'Connor was the architect behind the establishment of the Chicago Board Options Exchange and among the first to embrace the idea of trading standardized options contracts on stocks; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor increased CBOE's contracts traded per day to record levels, making it the largest exchange of its kind in the United States; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor attended St. Ignatius High School and earned both a bachelor's degree and J.D. from DePaul University; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor served with the United States Marine Corps during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor began his financial career in 1952 as a soybean trader in tlie pits of the Chicago Board of Trade, eventually rising to the rank of Vice Chairman; and
WHEREAS, Known for his savvy and trustworthy nature, Edmund O'Connor launched three family-run financial businesses which served as the training ground for some of Chicago's most successful traders; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Edmund O'Connor serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Edmund O'Connor to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Edmund O'Connor will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family...
