RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ken Salazar has officially announced that he is stepping down as United States Secretary of the Interior following four years of dedicated service; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ken Salazar was appointed by President Barack Obama and began his distinguished tenure on January 20, 2009; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ken Salazar brought to the position a wealth of experience in public service; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Ken Salazar previously served as a United States Senator from Colorado from 2005 to 2009 and as Attorney General of Colorado from 1999 to 2005; and
WHEREAS, As United States Secretary of the Interior, the Honorable Ken Salazar led the nation's response to the BP oil spill and administered a six-month moratorium on offshore drilling after the 2010 explosion; and
WHEREAS, During his esteemed tenure, the Honorable Ken Salazar also improved management of the Interior Department and established seven new national parks and ten new wildlife refuges; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Ken Salazar serve as an example to all; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this thirteenth day of February, 2013, do hereby congratulate the Honorable Ken Salazar on his tireless service as our nation's 50th Secretary of Interior and do hereby express our best wishes for his continued success; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Honorable Ken Salazar.
