RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, W. Robert Reum has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 74; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, W. Robert Reum was a widely admired business and civic leader and the loving husband for 50 years of Sherry; and

WHEREAS, W. Robert Reum was the much-adored father of Courtney, Carter and Halle to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, W. Robert Reum was the dear brother of James; and

WHEREAS, Since 2001 W. Robert Reum was the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Amsted Industries Corporation; and

WHEREAS, W. Robert Reum built the employee-owned manufacturer of industrial components for the railroad, vehicular, construction and building markets into a global leader; and

WHEREAS, In the process of engineering a strategic turnaround for the success of his company, W. Robert Reum also built wealth for the worker on the shop floor; and

WHEREAS, Prior to joining Amsted Industries, W. Robert Reum was the President and CEO of Interlake Corporation which was sold in 1999; and

WHEREAS, In his civic endeavors, W. Robert Reum was a member of the Board of Trustees and the Treasurer of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Morton Arboretum and the Elgin Academy; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of W. Robert Reum serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved, family, W. Robert Reum imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate W. Robert Reum for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of W. Robert Reum.
