RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A widely admired Philadelphia business and civic leader and a philanthropist, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest was the loving husband of Marguerite; and
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest made a fortune in the cable industry but gave most of it away, supporting schools, museums, journalism and the arts; and
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest was most proud of purchasing and saving the ailing Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News and then turning their operations over to a newly created non-profit; and
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest donated to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Barnes Foundation, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and the Museum of the American Revolution among other institutions, colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of September, 2018, do hereby commemorate H.F. "Gerry" Lenfest for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to hi...
