RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Alma Fitzpatrick has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 99; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A woman of dignity, grace and charm, Alma Fitzpatrick was the loving wife of the late Peter who served from 1967 to 1991 as the Chairman of the Chicago Commission on Human Rights; and
WHEREAS, Raised in Joliet, the former Alma Berard met her future husband while working at a Chicago law firm where he was a lawyer; and
WHEREAS, The couple married in 1937 and Alma Fitzpatrick raised her family of 16 children in the Englewood and Beverly neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Alma Fitzpatrick cherished each of her children as a gift from God and was the mother Maureen, Elaine, Joe, Mike, Colleen, Yvonne, Bob, Tom, Rita, Barbara, John, Bill, Dorothy, Catherine, Margaret and the late Jim, the grandmother of 25 and the great-grandmother of 13; and
WHEREAS, Alma Fitzpatrick displayed an amazing talent for organization and even took foreign exchange students into her home as a way of broadening her children's understanding of the world; and
WHEREAS, In addition to the many responsibilities as a parent and homemaker, Alma Fitzpatrick always found time for dancing which was one of the true joys of her life; and
WHEREAS, Alma Fitzpatrick was an active member in the Christian Family Movement and the Rosary Society; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Alma Fitzpatrick serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Alma Fitzpatrick was an individual of great integrity and goodness who wil
1 be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Alma Fitzpatrick imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
