RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Leon Kent has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 99; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A recipient of the Silver Star, Leon Kent was a World War II military hero and the loving husband of Simone; and
WHEREAS, Leon Kent was the much-adored father of Paul and Lynette, the grandfather of four and the great-grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, As a United States Army Lieutenant, Leon Kent demonstrated extraordinary leadership in December of 1944 when he helped to stop advancing German tanks in the Battle of Bulge in Belgium; and
WHEREAS, Along with three other soldiers under his command, Leon Kent destroyed five tanks in two hours using an anti-aircraft gun; and
WHEREAS, The heroic actions of Leon Kent thwarted a German breakthrough and provided Allied troops an opportunity to regroup; and
WHEREAS, Leon Kent was meritoriously promoted to Captain and following the war he returned to Los Angeles, California where he practiced law and specialized in tax cases and entertainment and copyright law; and
WHEREAS, Leon Kent also opened a bowling alley as an investment with his brother, Jack; and
WHEREAS, The bravery, sacrifice and dedication of Leon Kent serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Leon Kent to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, A member of our nation's "Greatest Generation," Leon Kent will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Leon Kent imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
