RESOLUTION

 

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov has gone to his eternal reward at the age of 85; and

 

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov was a former Prime Minister of Russia; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov was educated in Moscow in Oriental Studies and early in his career worked as a journalist in the Middle East for Soviet radio and Pravda, the Communist Party newspaper; and

 

WHEREAS, After serving in a number of academic positions, the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov was named Chairman of a chamber of the Soviet parliament that championed the reform agenda of President Mikhail Gorbachev; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1990 the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov was sent as an envoy to Iraq where he met with ruler Saddam Hussein in an attempt to avert war; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov served from 1991 to 1996 as Director of the USSR's Central Intelligence Service and was Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1996 to 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov served as Prime Minister of Russia from September of 1998 to May of 1999; and

 

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov serve as an example to all; and

 

WHEREAS, The Honorable Yevgeny Primakov will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

 

WHEREAS, To his wife and daughter, the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

 

 

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of July, 2015, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Yevgeny Primakov.
