RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Sister Kate Moriarty has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of her passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kate Moriarty was a member of the Sisters of Mercy for 63 years; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kate Moriarty was the much-adored sister of Thomas, Mary Therese, Barbara, Irene, and the late Timothy, Monsignor John, Eugene, Patrick and Brendan to whom she imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that she possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kate Moriarty was a mathematics teacher and counselor at Mother McAuley High School where she encouraged thousands of young women to attend college and contribute to the world; and
WHEREAS, Sister Kate Moriarty was an avid cook and baker known for her delicious lamb pies and soda bread; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Sister Kate Moriarty serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, Her love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Sister Kate Moriarty to her family members, friends and all who knew her, and enabled her to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, To her beloved family, Sister Kate Moriarty imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of September, 2017, do hereby commemorate Sister Kate Moriarty for her grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to her family; and
