CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO KAREN MARTIN ON RETIREMENT AS ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF NORTHSIDE LEARNING CENTER.
WHEREAS, Karen Martin, who began her teaching career at age 21, is retiring as Assistant Principal of the Northside Learning Center; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Karen Martin was assigned as a teacher for students with mild cognitive disabilities at Manley High School in 1976; and
WHEREAS, Karen Martin earned her Masters Degree in Reading in 1980 and coordinated the reading program for students reading below grade level in addition to teaching students with mild cognitive disabilities; and
WHEREAS, Karen Martin, in 1987 accepted a teaching position for students with moderate cognitive disabilities at Northside Learning Center, earned her Type 75 Administrator's Certificate, then in 1993 moved into an administrative position concentrating on curriculum development and scheduling, in 2003 she accepted the position of Assistant Principal; and
WHEREAS, Karen Martin, wife to Alan for 33 years, mother of Alyxandra and Spencer is retiring after 35 years of service; and
WHEREAS, The leaders of this great City of Chicago are cognizant of the great debt owed our educators; now therefore,
Be It Resolved, That we, the Mayor and members of the City Council of the City of Chicago, gathered here this eighth day of June, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude and heartiest congratulations to Karen Martin as she retires and we extend to this fine citizen our very best wishes for continuing success and fulfillment; and
Be It Further Resolved, That a suitable copy of this resolution be prepared and presented to Karen Martin.
