RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Roxanne Ward is preparing to complete her distinguished tenure as a valued member of the Chicago Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this event by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Ward was appointed to the Chicago Board of Education in 2005 and served faithfully for six years; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Ward is Vice President and Corporate Liaison of Ariel Investments and is President of the Black Corporate Directors Conference; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining Ariel, Roxanne Ward spent four years with the Chicago Park District as First Assistant General Counsel, Board Liaison, and Legislative Liaison; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Ward served as Co-Chair of the City of Chicago Mayoral Policy Caucus on Prisoner Reentry and serves on the Boards of Directors of WTTW, the Safer Foundation, and the Federation for Community Schools; and
WHEREAS, Roxanne Ward is a former member of the Desegregation Monitoring Commission and of the Boards of the Illinois Facilities Fund and Congo Square Theater Company; and
WHEREAS, Along with her fellow Board Members, Roxanne Ward has worked diligently to ensure that Chicago's public schools provide all students with an excellent academic foundation and a safe learning environment; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council assembled this fourth day of May, 2011, do hereby express our gratitude to Roxanne Ward for her years of public service to the more than four-hundred-thousand students currently enrolled in Chicago's public schools; and
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Roxanne Ward.
