RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-eight; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner was a retired Brigadier General in the United States military and the loving husband for thirty-six years of Dorothy; and

WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner was the much-adored father of six children and the grandfather of fourteen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A daring and highly decorated fighter pilot, James Robinson Risner joined the United States Army Air Forces in 1943 and was stationed in Panama during World War II; and

WHEREAS, During the Korean War, James Robinson Risner became an ace fighter pilot and flew 108 missions; and

WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner was shot down while serving in the Vietnam War and spent seven years as a prisoner; and

WHEREAS, Following the Vietnam War, James Robinson Risner commanded training programs until his retirement in 1976; and

WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner was the recipient of two Silver Star Medals and was one of only four airmen in history to receive more than one Air Force Cross; and

WHEREAS, A statue was erected in honor of James Robinson Risner at the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2001; and

WHEREAS, The heroism, sacrifice and dedication of James Robinson Risner serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, James Robinson Risner will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James Robinson Risner imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
