RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael D. Chandler has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Aldermen Edward M. Burke, Michael Scott, Jr. and Jason C. Ervin and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael D. Chandler was the loving and devoted husband of Lea; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael D. Chandler was the much-adored father of Michael Jr. and Thomas to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Born on November 30, 1952 in Presentation Parish, the Honorable Michael D. Chandler was a lifelong resident of the 24th Ward and lived for many years in the North Lawndale community; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Michael D. Chandler was a former member of the United States Air Force; and

WHEREAS, A former Building Department Supervisor the Honorable Michael D. Chandler served four terms as the Alderman of the 24lh Ward and was known for his campaign slogan "Fighting for the People"; and

WHEREAS, As Alderman, the Honorable Michael D. Chandler was a champion for better housing and enhanced educational opportunities for his West Side coiTirnunity; and

WHEREAS, Following a highly distinguished tenure as a member of the Chicago City Council, the Honorable Michael D. Chandler retired in 2015 and moved with his wife to Arizona; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Michael D. Chandler serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and-ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Michael D. Chandler to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Michael D. Chandler imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017...
