RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, James Steven Kahn has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of eighty-one; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, James Steven Kahn was a retired leader of the Museum of Science and Industry and the loving husband for fifty-nine years of Barbara; and

WHEREAS, James Steven Kahn was the much-adored father of Doug and Randall and the grandfather of four to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, James Steven Kahn served as the President and Chief Executive Officer ofthe museum from 1987 to 1997; and

WHEREAS, During his distinguished tenure, James Steven Kahn revitalized the museum to make it a place of awe and wonder and introduced new exhibits such as "Take Flight" which featured a 727 United Airlines jet suspended from a balcony; and

WHEREAS, Before coming to Chicago, James Steven Kahn previously served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of James Steven Kahn serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared James Steven Kahn to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, James Steven Kahn was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, James Steven Kahn imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this eleventh day of September, 2013, do hereby commemorate James Steven Kahn for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
