RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Coach Richard Douglas "Doug" Bruno will headline the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame's Class of 2022 and be inducted June 11,2022; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his achievement by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Doug has coached at DePaul University for 36 years, guiding the DePaul Blue Demons Women's Basketball Team to 24 NCAA Tournament appearances; and
WHEREAS, Doug is a three-time Big East Coach of the Year and has coached USA Basketball at nearly every level, leading teams to gold six times; and
WHEREAS, Doug was born in Normal, Illinois and played high school basketball at Quigley Preparatory Seminary South; and
WHEREAS, He played college basketball at DePaul University under Basketball Hall of Fame Coach Ray Meyer, earning a letter three years, and starting two seasons; and
WHEREAS, Doug started his coaching career in 1973-1974 at the high school level, first as an Assistant Coach for the boys' team at Francis Parker High School in Chicago, then as a Head Coach in 1974-1975 for the boys' team at St. Vincent DePaul High School; and
WHEREAS, In 1976, he was named the Head Coach of DePaul Blue Demons Women's Basketball Program, and in just the second season the team achieved a 16-6 record with the most wins in the program's history; and
WHEREAS, Doug left DePaul to become the Head Coach of the Chicago Flustle, a women's basketball team in the Women's Professional Basketball League; and
WHEREAS, He left after his second year with the Chicago Hustle to become the Associate Men's Head Coach at Loyola University Chicago under Gene Sullivan where he spent eight years at Loyola, during which the team had two 20 win seasons, and reached the Sweet Sixteen once in 1984-1985; and
WHEREAS, In 1988, Doug returned to DePaul and the Women's Basketball Program as the Head Coach leading the team to a 23 -10 record, tying for first place in the North Star Conference, and qualifying for post-season; and
