RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-three; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin was a widely admired Oak Park civic leader and the loving and devoted husband of Mary Jo; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin was the much-adored father of Daniel and Timothy and the grandfather of two to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin was the dear brother of Michael and Marnie; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin enjoyed a long and varied career during which he served as a journalist, politician, soldier and educator; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin was a reporter at the City News Bureau of Chicago, the renowned wire service, and worked on the production staff of WTTW-Television; and

WHEREAS, A veteran of the United States Army, the Honorable Redd Griffin served as a Republican member of the Illinois General Assembly during the 1980s; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Redd Griffin was a Founding Member and Past President of the Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park and a Co-Founder of the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust; and

WHEREAS, A board member of the Illinois State Historical Society, the Honorable Redd Griffin taught at Triton College; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Redd Griffin serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Honorable Redd Griffin to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Redd Griffin imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
