RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of seventy-seven; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Southwest Side, Patrick J. Houlihan was a distinguished public servant and a retired high-ranking member of the Chicago Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan was raised in a large Irish-Catholic family in the Fuller Park neighborhood and attended St. Cecelia Grammar School and De La Salle Institute; and
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan ably served as a medical technician in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 while stationed in Germany; and
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan joined the Chicago Fire Department in 1959 and served in nearly every fire house in Chicago during the course of his long and remarkable career; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Patrick J. Houlihan demonstrated a natural leadership ability and consistently won the respect of his fellow firefighters; and
WHEREAS, A valued member of Fire Fighters Union Local 2, Patrick J. Houlihan served as the union's Secretary-Treasurer during the historic strike of 1980; and
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan rose through the ranks to become a Battalion Chief and retired in 1997; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Patrick J. Houlihan serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Patrick J. Houlihan to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Patrick J. Houlihan will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Kathleen, his two sons, Brian and Daniel, his daughter, Deborah, his seven siblings and his five grandchildren, Patrick J. Houlihan imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
