RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 87; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was a leader in the field of aviation and the loving husband of Joan; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was the much-adored father of four children and the grandfather of nine to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was a Co-Founder and Chairman Emeritus of Southwest Airlines and a widely recognized pioneer of affordable air travel; and
WHEREAS, Raised Audubon, New Jersey, Herbert David Kelleher graduated from Wesley an University and New York University School of Law; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher created the concept for the discount airliner with businessman Rollin King and banker John Parker; and
WHEREAS, The first Southwest Airlines flight took off on June 18, 1971 and the company went on to become one of the largest in the United States, enjoying decades of profitability; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was also known for his colorful persona which helped to mold the 63,000-member workforce of Southwest Airlines into a corporate culture in which employees felt free to display humor while taking their jobs seriously; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was a past Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Herbert David Kelleher serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Herbert David Kelleher to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Herbert David Kelleher was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives...
