RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 81; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler was the loving husband of Marlene, nee Vyneman; and
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler was the much-adored father of Michelle, Patricia, Erin, Kathleen, Jennifer and the late Mark and the devoted grandfather of fourteen to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The son of Irish immigrants, Michael L. Butler was raised near 87th Street and Ashland Avenue in St. Kilian's Parish and earned a master's degree from Loyola University at Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Michael L. Butler remained extremely proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed a highly successful career in public service; and
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler was an assistant to former Alderman James C. Murray and worked in a variety of positions at City Hall under eight Chicago mayors; and
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler was a leading member of two clans of Irish families who for generations have been responsible for dyeing the Chicago River green on St. Patrick's Day; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Michael L. Butler to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Michael L. Butler will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Michael L. Butler imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twentieth day of July, 2016, do hereby commemorate Michael L. Butler for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
