CONGRATULATIONS EXTENDED TO JOYCE NAKAMURA ON RETIREMENT AS PRINCIPAL OF STONE SCHOLASTIC ACADEMY.
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, is retiring as Principal of Stone Scholastic Academy, after thirty-five years of service with the Chicago Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this occasion by The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, has vast experience in special education as a homebound teacher prior to her working eleven years as an assistant principal and six years as principal of Stone Scholastic Academy; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, was one of the first principals to implement the Charlotte Danielson's Framework for Teaching for teacher observation and evaluation, helping to improve teaching and learning at Stone Scholastic Academy; and-
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, wife of Terrance Abbruscato, mother of Matthew and Mark, has provided Stone Scholatic Academy with a rigorous curriculum with high expectations, technology, after school programs, world language, and evening programs which resulted in many more applicants than the selective enrollment elementary school could accept; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, has effectively helped Stone Scholastic Academy move forward under her strong leadership; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, has worked constantly to resolve issues and concerns in a timely manner with honesty and integrity, willingly offering guidance and assistance regarding staff, curriculum, professional development and programs; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, has initiated programs over the years that have addressed the needs of all her students from Kindergarten to 8th grade in special education, general education and gifted programs while her leadership helped standardized scores move forward; and
WHEREAS, Joyce Nakamura, has provided support and congeniality to her peers as one of the many principals in Area 2; and
