RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Denis Healey has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 98; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A member of the House of Lords from Sussex, the Right Honorable Denis Healey was the loving husband for more than 60 years of the late Edna; and

WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Denis Healey was the much-adored father of three children to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, A leading member of the British Labor Party and a graduate of Oxford University, the Right Honorable Denis Healey served as a member of Parliament from 1952 until his retirement in 1992; and

WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Denis Healey served as Secretary of Defense from 1964 to 1970 and as Chancellor for the Exchequer from 1974 to 1979; and

WHEREAS, Outside of his political service, the Right Honorable Denis Healey enjoyed wide-ranging interests from photography to opera; and

WHEREAS, During World War II, the Right Honorable Denis Healey bravely served as a Major in the British Army and fought in the North African Campaign, Italian Campaign and the Battle of Anzio; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Right Honorable Denis Healey serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Right Honorable Denis Healey to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, The Right Honorable Denis Healey was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Right Honorable Denis Healey imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
