RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-five; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa was a prominent Basque-American and the longest-serving elected official in the history of the State of Idaho; and
 
WHEREAS, Born in 1917 in Carey, Idaho, the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa was the son of immigrants from the Basque country of Spain; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa bravely served his country during World War II as an aviator in the United States Marine Corps; and
 
WHEREAS, Following his honorable discharge, the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa became a teacher; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives in 1950 where he served for sixteen years, including six years as Speaker; and
 
WHEREAS, From 1967 until 2003, the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa served as Idaho Secretary of State; and
 
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, The Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his loving wife, Freda, and his family, the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Pete T. Cenarrusa.
