RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-four; and
WHEREAS, The City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser was the loving and devoted husband of the late Irene; and
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser was the much-adored father of Laurie Fowler to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities which he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser fought valiantly in some of World War II's fiercest European battles and was the oldest living member of the World War 11 regiment known as Band of Brothers; and
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser was assigned to Company E, 506th Regiment, known as "Easy Company," and took part in the D-Day invasion, in Operation Market Garden and in the defense of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge; and
WHEREAS, Born in LaSalle, Illinois, Ed Mauser became a watch repairman at the conclusion of his service in World War II; and
WHEREAS, Famously humble, Ed Mauser kept his service with the high profile military unit a secret, even from several members of his family; and
WHEREAS, Though proud of his military service, Ed Mauser refused to be called a hero; and
WHEREAS, The sacrifice, dedication, and patriotism of Ed Mauser serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Ed Mauser to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Ed Mauser will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Ed Mauser imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this ninth day of February , 2011, do hereby commemorate Ed Mauser for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
