RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, The Reverend Lewis L. Flowers has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 62; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A widely respected member of the religious community, the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers was the loving and devoted husband of Cynthia; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Lewis L. Flowers was the much-adored father of Duwone Durand, Elijah, Lanita and Blaire, the grandfather of nine, and great-grandfather of one, to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Lewis L. Flowers was the cherished brother of Victor, Cornelius, Dennis, Aretha, Jocelyn and Lorinda; and

WHEREAS, The President and Chairman of the Westside Ministers Coalition, the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers was a tireless advocate for Chicago's Austin Community who worked hard to ensure that residents had access to the housing, education and health resources they needed; and

WHEREAS, The Reverend Lewis L. Flowers was the founding pastor of the Austin Community Ministries and an active supporter of many worthy causes; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members ofthe Chicago City Council, assembled this seventeenth day of January, 2013. do hereby commemorate the Reverend Lewis L. Flowers for his grace-tilled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
