RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel and Mary Alice Houlihan celebrated the joyful occasion of their Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary on November 2, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of this anniversary by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The former Mary Alice Loftus and the Honorable Daniel are Chicago natives who met on the beach at Lakeside, Michigan; and
WHEREAS, As their romance blossomed, the Honorable Daniel Houlihan worked in the legal profession and his future wife became an elementary school teacher; and
WHEREAS, On November 2, 1963, the couple exchanged vows of Holy Matrimony at St. Helena of the Cross Church in Chicago before a gathering of family members and friends, which included their parents, Bill & Sis Houlihan and Ed & Alice Loftus; and
WHEREAS, The marriage officiate was Father Robert Carroll, the bridesmaids were Marion Sherlock, Mary Therese Corrigan Malone, Cathy Loftus and Mary Houlihan and the groomsmen were Paul, Bill, and John Houlihan and Chuck Loftus; and
WHEREAS, The couple raised a close and loving family of six children: Margaret, Kathleen, Marty, Bridget, Molly and Nora; and
WHEREAS, The Houlihans first settled in a modest, ground-floor apartment at 1306 West 90th Street and by 1965 had purchased a home at 9156 South Claremont Avenue in the Beverly neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel Houlihan became a highly prominent member of the legal community and a member of the Illinois House of Representatives; and
WHEREAS, In 1975 the couple purchased the Houlihan summer home in Long Beach, Indiana, which over time has become every family member's favorite destination; and
WHEREAS, In 1980, the Houlihans moved to a home at 1101 Chestnut in Wilmette on the North Shore; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Daniel and Mary Alice Houlihan have demonstrated five decades of loving devotion to one another, to their children and to their eleven grandchildren, and throughout their married life have serv...
