RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 86; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A citizen of Slovakia, Michal Kovac was a widely admired member of the political community; and
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac was the first President of Slovakia after it became an independent state in 1993 and served until 1998; and
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac was President during a complicated time when the future of Slovakia was uncertain; and
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac's term in office was marked by clashes with Vladimir Meciar, an authoritative prime minister who led Slovakia into international isolation; and
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac was known for his personal dedication and courageous leadership; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Michal Kovac serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Michal Kovac to his family members, friends, and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Michal Kovac was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Michal Kovac imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this first day of November, 2016, do hereby commemorate Michal Kovac for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a/iiitable copy of this resolution be presented to
