RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 82; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, A longtime resident of the Hyde Park community, Dr. John Fennessy was a widely admired Chicago radiologist and the loving husband for 55 years of Ann; and
WHEREAS, Born in Clonmel, Ireland, Dr. John Fennessy earned his medical degree from University College Dublin and came to the University of Chicago as a resident in 1960; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy joined the faculty of the University's medical school in 1965; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy was promoted to Associate Professor in 1968 and Professor in 1974; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy earned a reputation as a highly popular teacher who drew medical students to the field of radiology; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy pioneered the use of a technique which allowed physicians to gain samples from hard-to-reach areas of the lung without using an incision; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy was elected as the first Vice President of the Radiological Society of North America in 1987; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Dr. John Fennessy serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Dr. John Fennessy to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and
WHEREAS, Dr. John Fennessy was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
WHEREAS, To his wife, Ann, his four sons, Conor, Sean, Niall and Ruairi, his daughter, Rona, his brother, Cianan, his sister, Nora, and his four grandchildren, Dr. John Fennessy imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
