RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, Jozef Paczynski has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 95; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, Jozef Paczynski was a former prisoner at the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II; and
 
WHEREAS, Jozef Paczynski was captured by the Germans after crossing from Poland into Slovakia as he attempted to join the Polish army in France; and
 
WHEREAS, During his internment at the death camp, Jozef Paczynski was selected to cut the hair of the camp commander; and
 
WHEREAS, While Jozef Paczynski served as Rudolf Hoess' personal barber for four years, he never spoke to him; and
 
WHEREAS, Following the war, Jozef Paczynski worked as a mechanical engineer and as an educator; and
 
WHEREAS, In 2001 Jozef Paczynski was honored with the Commander's Cross of the Order of the Rebirth of Poland; and
 
WHEREAS, Jozef Paczynski will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Jozef Paczynski imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixth day of May, 2015, do hereby commemorate Jozef Paczynski for his grace-filled life and do hereby, express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jozef Paczynski.
