RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING PERRY BUCKLEY ON HIS RETIREMENT AS PRESIDENT OF THE COOK COUNTY COLLEGE TEACHERS UNION

WHEREAS, On the thirteenth day of June, 2014, Perry Buckley, President of the Cook County College Teachers Union, will retire after 10 years of faithful service; and

WHEREAS, The Honorable Margaret Laurino, Alderman of the 39th Ward, has apprised this august body of this occasion; and

WHEREAS, a scholar and professor of English for over 30 years, Perry, Buckley served as Chair of the English Department at Wright College, Grievance Chair of his union, and used his expertise in the written word to contribute to the Cook County College Teachers Union newsletter, always seamlessly balancing his commitment to his students as a teacher with his commitments to his fellow teachers through their union; and

WHEREAS, with a membership of over 5,000, the Cook County College Teachers Union represents a unique, diverse and important workforce, and after a career in teaching that began in 1980 at Morton College, Perry Buckley transitioned to a position of leadership in the Cook County College Teachers Union as President in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Perry Buckley has faithfully served ten years as President of the Cook County College Teachers Union, navigating the complexities of leadership with a sense of humor, positive outlook, and loyalty to those around him. To many, he is a friend and confidant first, but to all, he is known as a dynamic leader and scholar; and

WHEREAS, after devoting a lifetime to educating young people and contributing immensely as the second President of the Cook County College Teachers Union, Perry Buckley looks forward to a happy and relaxing retirement with his wife, Lillian, spent cooking, reading, traveling and visiting his cottage and second home in Wroxston, England; now therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Mayor of the City of Chicago and members of the City Council, gathered this 30th Day of April, 2014, want to extend our sincerest ...
