RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 76; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking was an internationally acclaimed theoretical physicist; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking was the much-adored father of Lucy, Robert and Timothy to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking's early life was chronicled in the movie "The Theory of Everything"; and

WHEREAS, Despite being afflicted with ALS from the age of 21, Stephen Hawking was a man of remarkable scientific achievement who stunned experts in modern medicine by living 50 more years; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking authored the influential best-seller "A Brief History of Time" and was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge University; and

WHEREAS, In 1985 an attack of pneumonia left Stephen Hawking to breathe through a tube and forced him to communicate with an electronic voice synthesizer; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking resolutely continued to focus on his work and made television appearances; and

WHEREAS, The intellectual brilliance and dedication to science of Stephen Hawking serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Hawking was an individual of great integrity and accomplishment who will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Stephen Hawking imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-eighth day of March, 2018, do hereby commemorate Stephen Hawking for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
