RESOLUTION


WHEREAS, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Montecito, California, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli was the loving husband of Dolly; and

WHEREAS, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli was the Chief Executive Officer of the STP motor oil company; and

WHEREAS, A designer and owner of cutting-edge cars, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli spent his formative years in Chicago where he operated a garage; and

WHEREAS, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli went on to become a famous race car driver and had an ability to combine innovative technologies with highly talented race car drivers; and

WHEREAS, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli was inducted into nineteen engineering and sports halls of fame, including the Hall of Fame at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway; and

WHEREAS, In 1969 Anthony "Andy" Granatelli published his autobiography entitled, "They Call Me Mr. 500," and over the course of his career became a household name; and

WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of Anthony "Andy" Granatelli serve as an example to all; and

WHEREAS, His love of life and ability to live it to the fullest endeared Anthony "Andy" Granatelli to his family members, friends and all who knew him, and enabled him to enrich their lives in ways they will never forget; and

WHEREAS, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and

WHEREAS, To his beloved family, Anthony "Andy" Granatelli imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore

BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this fifteenth day of January, 2014, do hereby commemorate Anthony "Andy" Granatelli for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
