RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of 93; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel was a retired member of Congress from Illinois and the loving husband of the late Corinne; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel was the much-adored father of Scott, Bruce, Robin and Laurie to whom he imparted many of the fine and noble qualities that he possessed in abundance; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel ably served as a member of the United States House of Representatives from 1957 to 1995; and
WHEREAS, Hailed as a "paragon of good government" the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel was known for his bipartisanship and ability to reach across the aisle to forge agreements; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel served as House Minority leader from 1981 to 1995 and as House Minority Whip from 1975 to 1981; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Peoria, the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel participated in the Invasion of Normandy during World War II where he was wounded by machine gun fire; and
WHEREAS, The Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel was a recipient of the Purple Heart, two Bronze Stars and four Battle Stars; and
WHEREAS, The hard work, sacrifice and dedication of the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel serve as an example to all; and
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-ninth day of March, 2017, do hereby commemorate the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Honorable Robert "Bob" Michel.
