RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Friar Jozo Grbes has been elected as the new Provincial Minister of the Franciscans of Herzegovina; and
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his new position by. Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
WHEREAS, In 1966 Friar Jozo was born in Rama, a village in Bosnia and Herzegovina; and
WHEREAS, In 1986, lie entered the Franciscan Order in Humac, belonging tothis Province; and
WHEREAS, Friar Jozo studied theology in Sarajevo, Canterbury and London and graduated in 1992; and
WHEREAS, After London, he went to the Croatian Franciscan Custody of the Holy Family for the USA and Canada; and
WHEREAS, Friar Jozo was ordained a priest in 1993 at the Croatian Parish of St. Cyril and Methodius, in New York, where he began his pastoral work; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, he moved to Sf. Jerome Parish in Chicago, where he was the pastor for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, Friar Jozo was elected Custodian, the Superior of the Croatian Franciscans in the US and Canada, where he performed numerous services as Parochial Vicar, Parish Priest, Custodial Counselor, Guardian, Director of the: CroationEthnic Institute and Formator of Seminarians; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this twenty-second day of June, 2022, .do hereby congratulate Friar Jozo Grbes for his service, dedication, and bravery as the newly .elected Provincial Minister of the Franciscans of Herzegovina; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Friar Jozo Grbes along with congratulations and best wishes ofthe City of Chicago, and be it further resolved, that June 2,2022be declared Friar Jozo Grbes. Day throughout the City of Chicago.
