RESOLUTION
 
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis has been called to eternal life by the wisdom of God at the age of ninety-three; and
 
WHEREAS, The Chicago City Council has been informed of his passing by Alderman Edward M. Burke; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis was a retired priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago and a longtime religious educator; and
 
WHEREAS, Born in Chicago to Lithuanian parents, the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis was raised in Holy Cross Parish and attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary and the University of St. Mary of the Lake / Mundelein Seminary; and
 
WHEREAS, Ordained in 1943 by then-Archbishop Samuel Stritch, the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis was first assigned to St. Benedict Parish in Blue Island; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis served for the next seventeen years as a teacher at Quigley Preparatory Seminary before he was assigned to the Quigley South campus; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis ended his teaching career in 1971 when he became Pastor of his home parish of Holy Cross; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis was Associate Pastor of Nativity, BVM Parish until his retirement from active ministry in 1989; and
 
WHEREAS, The holiness, sacrifice and dedication of the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis serve as an example to all; and
 
WHEREAS, The Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by his many relatives, friends and admirers; and
 
WHEREAS, To his beloved family, the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis imparts a legacy of faithfulness, service and dignity; now, therefore
 
BE IT RESOLVED, That we, the Mayor and the members of the Chicago City Council, assembled this sixteenth day of October, 2013, do hereby commemorate the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis for his grace-filled life and do hereby express our condolences to his family; and
 
 
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of the Reverend Vito E. Mikolaitis.
